Design, planning and construction of a new Flame Zone rated (BAL-FZ) residential dwelling in the Blue Mountains, NSW.
This energy efficient and healthy home elevates simple materials to provide a comfortable retreat through all seasons. Using passive solar design, north-facing windows capture sunlight during cooler months and minimise direct sunlight throughout the peak of summer. Practical additions include a rainwater tank and solar panels to enhance self-sufficiency. Low or no emissions materials and finishes of the strictest standards were selected to create a healthy living environment. A considered palette of forest red gum timber, oiled pine plywood, oiled concrete, natural lime render and clay paints serve both form and function. The 110 square meter 2-bedroom house and separate garage feel expansive whilst maintaining a modest footprint nestled within the natural bushland setting.
